Friends of Halifax Common (FHC) is a member-based registered charity working to preserve the Halifax Common for use by the public as greenspace.
Based on research and consultation, FHC shares information with the public to assist residents in voicing concerns over the environmental and social repercussions of decisions made by HRM City Hall. It is our goal to both protect and restore Common lands.

Friends of the HalifaxCommon (FHC) is Halifax’s only organization dedicated to protecting the Halifax Common—a mission we’ve carried out since 2006.

Campagne

FHC educates city officials and the public by speaking at meetings and organizing letter-writing campaigns and public protests. We communicate to you through the media, our news blog, fb page, and a monthly newsletter.

As Halifax becomes more densely populated, access to outdoor space is decreasing, particularly for apartment dwellers. We need to protect shared green space that supports daily recreation, social connection, and mental well-being.

As our Common is 'shrinking' by the year we aim to reclaim common lands now occupied by buildings and pavement. We advocate for natural and environmentally sustainable enhanments contributing to climate resilience.
