The Work of the FHC Board

—> Engaging both City Hall and the public to create awareness —>

FHC Directors:
  • Meet on a regular basis with HRM Councillors and occasionally with other politicians on issues affecting the Common.
  • Speak at public hearings of HRM Council on issues related to the Common.
  • Present at committee meetings of HRM Council particularly the Community Planning and Economic Committee. (Who make recommendations to Regional Council to support community and economic life.)

Board Members

William Breckenridge
about William
William is a community advocate, historian, researcher, entrepreneur, political commentator and tour guide. You have likely met him in your travels around Halifax.
Peggy Cameron, Chair
about Peggy
Peggy is a biologist with a master’s in environmental studies. She is the owner and vice-president of Black River Wind Ltd. Her research, writing, art and public engagement focus on climate change solutions. Co-founder, with Beverly Miller, of the Friends of Halifax Common. Peggy loves spending time in nature.
Howard Epstein
about Howard
Howard is a retired lawyer and former City Councillor (1994-1998) and MLA (1998-2013). Howard has practiced, taught and written about land use planning law for decades, including at Dalhousie University’s Schulich School of Law.
Lawrence MacEachern
about Lawrence
Lawrence is a retired Civil Engineer and also has an MBA, which he continues to use in his volunteer activities. Lawrence is interested in finding solutions for communicating and educating the public and HRM Council on the importance of preserving the Halifax Common.
Peggy Smith
about Peggy
Peggy is a retired school teacher and currently tutors immigrants learning English. She is a mother and grandmother who remains committed to leaving the world a better place for her granddaughter
