The grass on The Common was cut
Today
For the first time this spring
The back and forth patterns
Of the mowers
Still discernible
In zig zag lines
I will notice these weekly mowings
Through spring, summer and fall
As I cut across the park on my way to work
Grass underfoot
Soft, green, shorn
What would The Common be without this turf?
